Sunsets, calming waves, and romantic views are some of the things you might be looking forward to at your beach wedding. And while having a beach wedding is magical and romantic, sometimes the planning can get a bit overwhelming.
That’s why we’ve compiled a list of 5 tips for you as you begin planning a beach wedding. These tips will help your big day be as amazing as you’ve been dreaming it will be.
1. Research the Beach’s Accessibility
While you might be able to easily walk through the sand, some of your guests might have trouble. What about some of your elderly relatives? Anyone in a wheelchair?
Keep those people in mind as you research various beaches’ accessibility.
Also, think about where your guests will be during the ceremony. Are you going to provide chairs? How will you get the chairs down to the beach? Is there a parking lot adjacent to the beach, or will guests need to park somewhere else? Are you going to provide shuttles to the beach?
This seems like a lot to consider, and it is. But as long as you figure everything out and plan ahead, it shouldn’t be overwhelming.
2. Know the Weather
Weather can make or break an outdoor wedding, perhaps a beach wedding especially.
When planning a beach wedding, you should know the average temperature and weather patterns around the time you’re planning to have it. You don’t want to accidentally schedule the perfect beach wedding during hurricane season.
Also, be aware of the tides. You don’t want to arrive at your wedding only to find that high tide has completely engulfed all of the beach space.
3. Seasonal Differences
Different seasons will not only bring different weather, but they’ll also bring different crowds, requirements, and prices.
During the busy season, you might get better weather, but you’ll also have to deal with larger crowds, lifeguards, patrols, and potentially higher prices.
The off-season would allow you to have a quieter and more private beach wedding, but you’ll have to work around worse, colder, or hotter weather.
Evaluate the pros and cons of each season while planning your beach wedding.
4. Permits
The rules of different beaches will vary. While planning, check on the beach’s rules and whether you’ll need permits based on:
- The size of your wedding
- Whether alcohol will be served
- Whether you’re putting up structures like tents, chairs, or ropes
- Any “dangerous” activities you plan on having (like bonfires or performers, for example).
Understanding exactly what permits you’ll need will help you in your planning process.
5. Have a Backup Plan!
This is perhaps the most important tip of all: arrange a backup plan. Weather can change on a dime and you don’t want to be, literally, left out in the rain.
You can reserve a tent, a different indoor venue, or even ponchos if you like; you should have a plan in place in case disaster strikes.
