Just about 20 minutes away, Bonita Springs makes a lovely day trip. This friendly city is home to some of the last undeveloped sand dunes in Florida. Explore the largest remaining virgin bald cypress forest in the world to see the largest mating flock of Wood Stock in the world at the Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. View the rehabilitative work at the Everglades Wonders Garden as they work to help injured birds and mammals under the old growth plant canopy.
Places to Eat
In addition to Flippers on the Bay, couples can explore a variety of romantic restaurants near Lovers Key State Park. Wyld’s Cafe in Bonita Springs offers a diverse menu with delicious cashew encrusted fresh grouper and lamb shanks in a more casual dining atmosphere. The German cuisine at Heidi’s Island Bistro in Fort Myers Beach is fantastic, especially the schnitzel. No trip to the area would be complete without a stop at the Royal Scoop for homemade ice cream.
